The Rebublic of Madagascar is a 587041 km² island state off the south-east coast of Africa and is known for its tropical rainforests, extensive thornbush savannahs and, due to its geographical isolation, for a unique flora and fauna with a high proportion of endemic species. The seat of government is in Antanarivo, the system of government is a unitary semi-presidential constitutional republic. In Madagascar live 27.7 people (as of 2018), most of whom belong to the ethnic group "Merina".
The official national currency is the "Malagasy ariary" (MGA). The two spoken languages (official languages) are Malagasy and French. The vast majority of the population professes the Christianity.
Madagascar is home to several national parks, game reserves and nature reserves such as the Ankarana, Amber Mountain or the Andasibe-Mantadia. Due to its geographical isolation, Madagascar offers a unique fauna and flora with a very high proportion of endemic species.
