The Damaraland is a Nature Reserve in Namibia in the provinces of Kunene Region, Erongo Region. The park was established on 01.01.1980 and covers an area of 48 km². The Damaraland offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

Damaraland stretches between Etosha National Park in the north to Usakos in the south, bordering the Skeleton Coast in the west and the B2 National Road in the south. This vast wilderness is one of the last remaining unofficial wilderness areas in Africa. The main attraction is the stunning desert environment. The wildlife is rather sparsely populated. The region is home to several important rock art sites.

Landscape

The main habitat of the Damaraland is the Savannah.

The area impresses with its rugged, rocky landscape and with one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in Africa. Wild desert mountains rise from the Skeleton Coast. Deep gorges, cliffs and rocky outcrops create a perfect environment for well-preserved ancient rock art. Spitzkoppe, the remnant of an ancient volcano, is one of Namibia's most famous landmarks and a popular climbing destination.

Daytime temperatures can rise to well over 38°C in summer (May to September), while nights fall below freezing in winter (October to April). Despite the rainy season in summer, rainfall is sporadic. In winter it is extremely dry.
