Mountain View Eco Lodge Montagu

If I could give a -5 star I would. Rudest guesthouse I’ve ever had to deal with. Don’t waste your money or your time booking with them. They really don’t care about their guests, only about their money. Absolutely shocking.

It's located conveniently, with a great view from the deck and friendly hosts. The rooms are neat and clean with good showers and comfortable beds. They could be made more private by moving the walkway into the garden with individual paths leading to each room's glass door; and by using wider curtains lined with sun-block. The stairs leading to the dining room and pool would be a challenge for anyone older or less agile. The omelette at breakfast was good and the coffee was superb.

I rely on honest reviews when making my bookings so was quite disappointed to find that the accommodation sends an email saying the following: “Shortly after your stay, youll receive an email from Booking.com asking you to rate and review your experience with us. If you rate us at least 9/10 and your review is not anonymous, youll automatically be entered into our lucky draw!” Thereafter follows a list of “fantastic prizes”. Suffice to say I will give an honest review. I stayed for 3 nights. The lodge is within walking distance of the town centre. Check in and out went well and there is secure parking on site. The room was clean and a good size. Bathroom (shower) was spacious. I had a problem with my o/s plug and Maud kindly sorted this out. So why not a “9” ? Primarily as a result of the bedding, towels and cushions - these are too worn and should really be replaced. Also a common gripe … why is the tv so high up on the wall (near the ceiling)?

What a beautiful place to stay in Montagu. We were welcomed by the kind and warm host with her fur babies and well-maintained gardens :) The accommodation was very clean, neat, and good enough for us and the view during day and night was absolutely stunning on the deck. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and the breakfast in the cozy restaurant. I highly recommend this lodge. You won’t regret, I promise you. Thank you so much for making our Easter holiday fun and relaxing at your place :)

We are 3 Belgians who were hiking in the beautiful surroundings of Montagu on a lovely Sunday ☀️. Suddenly, we saw a Belgian flag ??, home at last! This Belgian flag appears to represent an ‘eco’ guesthouse, so we called at the door with the following message: “we are Belgians in desperate need of some Belgian food.” Keen to enjoy some renowned Belgian hospitality. The owner replied “that is not my problem, just take the first plane back home.” At first, we believed this was a joke but an awkward silence remained. He added “we are only open to guests.” We hope the guests are treated with more kindness and respect.

Undoubtedly Mountain View Lodge does not only have the most picturesque views overlooking Montagu & the awe-inspiring mountainous regions leading to Barrydale, but the pool, bar & elevated deck area have you feeling like you are in a far away world. While a few steps one way will have you in the center of the town with the towns church steeple towering over you on one side & some rather uniquely original venues to choose from to either have a cold one with some good ol local folk, or be a true wonderer & go discover Lovers Walk in an adventure in natures most natural feats I have witnesses to date. The intrigue only ends when you want it to end... Might as well discover it all for yourself why don't you!

Very friendly and entertaining hosts. Rooms are big and very nice. There is also a little pool and roof top where you have nice view of the mountain. Breakfast is very good. So definitely a recommendation if you need a stay for one or two nights.

The rooms was standard and comfortable. The view on the pool deck was spectacular!!The best part was the atmosphere was so peaceful. Thanks to Allen and Muad, what a beautiful lady with a beautiful soul that made our stay comfortable and made us feel welcomed.
