The Kaokoland is a Private Game Reserve in Namibia in the provinces of Kunene Region. The park was established on 01.01.1970 and covers an area of 115.26 km². The Kaokoland offers the possibility of self-drive safaris.

The area is situated in the north of Namibia on the border with Angola. Kaokoland is a very remote region, difficult to access and a true wilderness area. The desert landscape is breathtaking and inhospitable at the same time. There is sporadic wildlife, including desert elephants, but this is not primarily a destination for wildlife viewing as the animal density is very low.

Landscape

The main habitat of the Kaokoland is the Sandveld.

Real desert in the midst of an unreal mountain landscape alternates from steppe-like plateaus to dry valleys. The Kunene River is the lifeline of this region and its banks offer a diverse flora. The vegetation in this area is very sporadic, but there are many African baobabs to be seen.
