Fantastic sightings, comfortable accommodation with open views of the best concession of Kruger…but, our trip to Umkumbe was characterised by poor service and lack of professionalism. Our game driver was inexperienced, lacked knowledge of general game viewing and the resident animals within the area, and was also not professional with how she conducted herself during game drives and interactions with guests and colleagues alike… we felt like we were passengers on a drive where she was going to enjoy the ride, despite numerous requests from ourselves and other guests on the game drive with us. Along with this, the food was limited (despite it being buffet style) and was not prepared well for a premium lodge (was not cooked well and did not taste nice). There was no manager on site and even when speaking to the staff who seemed to be in charge (receptionist and head game ranger) asking if we could make some changes, they heard us without attempting to enquire why we were not happy with the current situation!?

Absolutely gorgeous lodge. Staff is very friendly and welcoming, tents are nice and full of little touches. Food was good and we had issues with wifi, but I think places like that are better to be without any digital presence. Game drives are fun, informative and with lots to see.

Being on a holiday for more then 3 weeks visiting several lodges and private game reserves..... this was the best ever and our favourite. Caretaking staff and the rangers were really your host and everyone did all they could to make your stay excellent. We had a very nice spontaneous get togehter evening with rangers and enjoyed it too the most. Evening dinner at Central Place and delicious meals are presented. The recommendation.....

Amazing experience at the Umkumbe Bush Lodge. Staff was very friendly. Big thanks to our guide ranger Frikkie who showed us so many animals and shared his deep knowledge about this beautiful ecosystem- always with great enthusiasm! The tents were also very clean and comfortable!

What an amazing safari experience at the Umkumbe Bush Lodge in the middle of the bush within the private Sabi Sands game reserve! The staff was very keen on making our stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. The tents are very luxurious and we managed to see all the big 5 animals (including a hippo due to some extra effort by our super nice and knowledgeable guide Elzaan). Great food and lots of fun socializing with the ranger guides throughout our stay. Highly recommended!

Everything about Umkumbe is five-stars: the game drives, the accommodations, and perhaps above all - the PEOPLE! Let's start with why we're all here to begin with: the safari. Between the morning and afternoon game drives, we saw all of the Big Five within our first day! Admittedly, we seemed to have some luck with the elusive lion and leopard. Both separately came prowling right toward our vehicle - slightly terrifying but absolutely exhilarating! Our guide Pieter was awesome, somehow keeping us at ease despite how close we got to the animals. He was also full of knowledge and when he didn't know something, was humble enough to admit it and look it up. Aside from encountering these majestic animals, we learned a ton about them too. In addition to Pieter, every last member of the team was terrific - from the fronthouse staff accommodating our needs to the kitchen staff crafting three delicious meals per day (with dessert!) to the landscapers keeping the property looking immaculate and housekeeping tidying up our beautiful tents. After just a few days, they felt like family! I joked - with genuine honesty - that the tent was nicer than many hotel rooms I've stayed in. It felt like a luxurious experience while not losing the natural experience of being out in the wild. Perfectly done and I could not recommend Umkumbe more highly!

Absolutely amazing experience here. From the warm welcome to the game drives, everything was very good. Especially a shout out to the cook, who made lovely vegetarian food. And to Elea who was a wonderful guide.
