Unwind and recharge. The tranquility at Old Mill was amazing. A lot to do on the premises that doesn't require driving back into town. Kids loved the pool, rooms tidy and comfortable. Great food from the restaurant and good service all around.

I would describe the Old Mill as “fine”. Don’t get me wrong, it’s like a family resort that our parents took us to in the ‘80s and ‘90s, but it is also very much a resort that’s stuck in the past. As lovely as the location is, where you really feel like you are nestled among the mountains and perfectly isolated from the hustle and bustle of the world, it just feels a bit … tacky. There are signs up telling you not to pee in the pool, or to throw condoms into the toilet. I realise that people do these things, but in 2024 do we still need plastic signs up everywhere saying so? The room was perfectly adequate, although we didn’t have hot water pressure once the morning shower rush in the adjacent block of rooms began. The restaurant offered delicious food, and was well priced. The kudu fillet was worth the visit alone. The petting zoo and playgrounds are well equipped for kids, and were definitely a highlight, but then you walk upon a cage with sad-looking ducks who look wet and miserable, and as if they haven’t seen the light of day. All in all, the Old Mill is a lovely place, but it is just “fine”… Will I be back? Maybe. But it feels like the whole outfit needs to be brought into 2024 kicking and screaming to make it more appealing to a modern crowd.

We spent one night in Oudtshoorn to see some ostriches and slept in a tent. The tent was super luxurious and we had no mosquito bites at all. Restaurant was super delicious and high quality food. Only negative aspect: ostriches didn’t have lots of space in their area.

Our first experience at the Old Mill Oudtshoorn (De Oude Meul Country Lodge) on 30/12/2023. Getting seated the children headed out to the kiddies play area, wherein my son fell down sustaining very bad injuries. Yes running in excitement was on him, however unclear warning signs were placed at the bottom of the very slippery walkway INSTEAD of at the entrance -not even visible to me -and even me as an adult could not walk on the slippery surface. The solution of thin wood bars is very insufficient to say the least and maybe they should take care in regularly washing the surface. Making matters worse is that there was no medical aid kit available, with the manager’s excuse that supplies were used the previous day by a mother and child sustaining a fall (likely at the same spot) Now as it stands my son’s holiday season is ruined due to the badly injured leg and bruised tailbone, but what infuriates me the most is the arrogant, disrespectful and very rude response from the manager. Not even once did he offer assistance let alone at least check on the injured visitor and upon advising for at least medical aid kit to be in place he was very very rude. I am truly outraged by the first experience at the restaurant and the utter careless response to the injury

Everything was perfect, clean and spacious room with immaculate en suite bathroom. Lush gardens, nice views on the Mountain, excellent restaurant with good service. All of it at very reasonable price. Very friendly manager. I do not understand those who do not give a 5* rating to this place.

Had a wonderful stay here in the beautiful grounds. Rooms were spotless. The baby ostriches were a treat and the walk into the mountains behind had panoramic views (pretty exhausting). The dinner was exquisite - perfect ambiance and delicious food.

What a gem of a place. Exceeded our expectations. Stayed in the Deluxe Family Cottage right next to the river with the mountains surrounding us. Was absolutely stunning. We did not have hot water but was fixed quickly by very friendly and helpful staff. The gardens are neatly kept and the property has 3 swiming pools and great play area for the kids. The baby ostriches are so cute. There are also two friendly ponies wondering the lush green fields. The buffet breakfast had a lot of options and very tasty. Baie dankie vir 'n wonderlike oornag stop.

We spent 3 nights here with breakfast. The food was great and cleaning and breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. The room was great too, nice and big for a couple with a toddler. They cleaned the room every day and gave us clean towels. The setting was also great, animals on the farm entertained my daughter. We would recommend this place to stay and must be wonderful in the summer when the pools can be used😊
