Moon Mountain Lodge

Diep Rivier Farm on the C19 district road Hardap, 9000, Solitaire 9000

About Moon Mountain Lodge

Moon Mountain Lodge offers luxury tented accommodation in the Namib Desert. The lodge is situated on the farm named Diep Rivier East. It is adjacent to the C19 situated 30 km south of Solitaire. Un-route to the apricot-colored dunes of Sossusvlei, yet far enough for travelers looking for privacy and solitude, the lodge is ideal for independent travelers.

There are 11 Luxury tented rooms with un-suite bathroom and a private deck with a splash pool. This is the perfect spot for sundowners or "moonrisers". There are also 6 spacious suites boasting all these facilities plus an extra private lounge area for the ultimate relaxation hub. Endless vistas fringed by the Naukluft Mountains can be enjoyed from the comfort and privacy of your own room with its wooden deck, while gemsbok, springbok, and mountain zebra take turns to keep you company. As you are surrounded by this breath-taking environment, there is no need for a television, although there is one in the main building’s lounge. Free Wi-Fi is also offered only in the main restaurant area.

Honeymooners or those who want to enjoy a romantic night in can request room service for dinner. Each room has a fridge. Nebula Restaurant is well-known for its delicious traditional meals. It can host up to 46 guests. Seasonal vegetables grow in the on-site garden, which is made possible by a water recycling plant, optimizing water usage.

Grab a drink at Cosmos Bar and relax on the deck overlooking the Namib’s petrified dunes. You can also enjoy the sunset from here or stargaze the night away. Light pollution in Namibia is minimal and therefore, as the name of the lodge implies, it is the perfect place for optimum views of the night sky.

Unfortunately, we were unable to enjoy our stay due to a green beetle infestation in the room. We reported the issue to staff, and although they came to vacuum and clean, the insects remained—even inside the bed sheets. We understand the location is in the countryside, but this situation was excessive and unacceptable. They offered to move us to another room six hours after our arrival, but by then we no longer felt comfortable and decided to leave and stay elsewhere. The lodge’s response to all of this has been deeply disappointing. We had booked two nights and were not refunded for either, despite the circumstances. Over €500 lost… Very poor service. We are frequent travelers and have never experienced such treatment before.

My fiancée and I had the pleasure of staying here for two nights, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. This place offers an exceptional experience for anyone who cherishes being immersed in nature. The accommodations are simply superb, featuring spacious rooms and modern, well-appointed bathrooms that elevate comfort to a new level. The views from our room? Absolutely breathtaking—undoubtedly some of the most stunning we’ve ever encountered. Waking up to such serene beauty each morning was a true delight, making every moment feel special. As vegetarians/vegans, we greatly appreciated the chef’s thoughtfulness, who went above and beyond to craft special dishes tailored to our dietary preferences. The service throughout our stay was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who made us feel genuinely welcome.

This is indeed a very beautiful lodge. The rooms were clean and spacious. Loved the private dipping pool and set up of the bathrooms. So much thought and detail went into this lodge to cater for guests needs whilst ensuring ones privacy as well. The view is absolutely breathtaking. The service was great and the food even better. Thumbs up to the owner who captured this beauty in our Namib desert. The lodge was built in such a way that all guests rooms can enjoy the surrounding landscapes and beauty of the night skies where one felt so close to God and nature. It felt like you could almost reach out and touch the stars from your rooms, own wrap around deck. It took my breath away. a Real gem in the middle of nature! I highly recommend this lodge! 👌💫

The food and view are amazing, those are the only good things about this place. It's described as "ultra luxury", however there was nothing luxurious about this place. We booked this lodge for 2 nights at the end of June. We were meant to hike the dunes, canyon, and Dead Vlei the day after our first night. We got no sleep at all due to the flapping tent windows of our tent. The velcro at the top of the windows is so worn that it doesn't hold the windows closed and when the wind blows through, it sounds like someone is banging on the sides of the tent. We missed the departure for our activities that morning because we were so tired. When we asked the manager if there was anything they could do about the windows, he was extremely condescending and tried to explain the changing of the seasons and the wind that comes with it. We told him the wind was not the problem, but the tent sides/windows that don't function properly. He continued to rudely explain the wind (and even said "well there was going to be wind on the dunes")...he even raised his voice at me at one point. We were so disappointed that we left and booked another lodge for that night (without receiving a discount or refund, it was that bad, we had to leave). I would avoid this place at all costs.

This lodge is so so beautiful 😍 when I read something about an unfriendly manager or a ''youth hostel'' I am getting so said, because it's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. The staff is so friendly and the view is just amazing. I will come back.

The view from the rooms is simply breathtaking, and it’s a cute idea with the open tents. Food was amazing and they were so kind to us ! However, I’d suggest to add some more comfortable chairs in the common area (outside), where you can relax while enjoying the view. Showers might require some remodeling.

One of the hidden gems. I found them through the Walk-In Tours last minute booking options and what a find it was. Located just 50km’s from Soussusvlei park, the remote stay offers all of the best perks you’d want - quietness, great views, spacious and great rooms, hot showers, small pool etc. I really loved every minute. The walls are tent like with air blowing through them but even now, when its going towards the winter season, it was 20 degrees or a bit lower at night and totally fine to sleep there. The views for the sunset were amazing. It has breakfast and dinner included, has okay wifi and great people working there - Hannes is managing the place well enough. Apparently took 2 years to build the complex as all of the structures needed to be hand made and fixed as its high on the mountain. If you’re planning to visit the park, the first gates open at sunrise at 7.15am so to drive there it takes approx 45min so could leave at 6.30am or later and still have time to go and climb 2 dunes before the midday heat get to you
