Mankwe Tented Retreat

NG43 Concession North East Wildlife Area, Bordering Moremi/Chobe Nat. Park, Moremi Wildlife Reserve 0000
Botswana Moremi Wildlife Reserve

About Mankwe Tented Retreat

Mankwe Tented Retreat is located on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, a renowned World Heritage Site in Botswana. The border of the Moremi Game Reserve lies a stone’s throw to the west of Mankwe, while Chobe National Park is slightly north, and Maun is only two hours south, by road.

The lodge is nestled in a prime location in its own 300 000 hectares concession, shared with sister lodge, Tuskers Safari Camp. This is a prestigious territory in the wild wonderland of Botswana, where the lack of fences allows for free-roaming wildlife, resident lions, an abundance of elephants, and incomprehensible room to explore.

Mankwe was the most special place on our two-week journey through Botswana - it has remained as the highlight of our trip. Not only were the landscapes of the Moremi game reserve as well as Chobe absolutely breathtaking, the wildlife sightings with Gosekwang (John) were the perfect symbiosis of adventure, education and safe enjoyment. John was extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, charismatic and enthusiastic about the drives. They were organized wonderfully: we received blankets and ponchos for the cold and drinks as well as AMAZING food on our day drives. Even during dinners John was open to answering all of our curious questions and overall was just such a light on our trip - we won’t ever forget. Looking back into the lodges, we were absolutely blown away by the luxury of staying at Mankwe. All details in the room and the common areas were designed with such intent and aesthetic vision. We received heating flasks every night and were greeted with a number of convenient items for our stay (water, bug spray etc.). The service truly was wonderful - thank you so much to Kelly who managed our room, it was amazing! Even generally speaking, the whole team at Mankwe was such a dynamic delight to interact with each day. From the first introduction, the absolutely fabulous iced tea, to warm towels after every game drive, wonderful conversation during meals and the day-to-day check ins, or accompaniment to the lodges at night, to the last dinner and the heartfelt goodbye we received - Mankwe was a place to cherish and never forget. We’ll miss looking over the pool edge to see a multitude of elephants, game drives with John and enjoying the delicious food and drinks created by the team with the uttermost expertise and kindness. Thank you so so much!!! Serena & Family

The team at Mankwe led by John, is well synchronized and very welcoming. The camp really gives the sense of a retreat like the name says, as the atmosphere is very cozy. The guides Mogae and John were engaging, and attentive to us as guests, making the gaming experience more enjoyable. All in all, I would definitely recommend Mankwe without hesitation

Had a great time and experienced nature at this place. From the joyous welcome by staff to the introduction by camp manager. The game drive with MG left unforgettable memories, the food was amazing. The highlight was early morning and evening sightings of wildlife while chilling at the deck. Would go back the again, anyday!

One of the best lodges we’ve stayed in Botswana. We had our 2 private tents for 4 of us. Legendary hospitality, magnificent attention to details, great views from the deck pool - elephants were literally right next to us. Tents (only 8 in the lodge) were spacious, very clean and both with showers overlooking waterhole nearby - great experience at any time. John, camp manger, was taking care of everything. Our private guide OP did best job ever fulfilling all of our needs. Truly recommend the place

Loved this place. And it really is wild. Large animals roam around the camp. Tents are very well appointed and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Campsite was fine. Service was bad. No explanation on where what was near the reception. Also no game drives possible.

My wife and I went here for our 30th Anniversary and it is a must visit if you can. I would plan a month earlier if possible. The heat in October is very high.

We visited in early August in the dry season and the game viewing was exceptional. With exclusive access to a portion of Chobe and year round water we were guaranteed exceptional, exclusive and thoroughly rewarding viewing. Minor criticism - kettle in room instead of thermos please!
