About Kalahari Farmhouse, Gondwana Collection Namibia

The reception and restaurant are housed in a manor, built in the heyday of Karakul farming 50 years ago. The small farming business next-door keeps the kitchen stocked with fresh produce for the delicious dishes on the menu. For guests, there are 11 tastefully decorated rooms in chalets reminiscent of the Cape Dutch style. There are also campsites available hidden under old date palms.

Enjoy the serene tranquillity at the pool, visit the farming business or join a scenic drive in Gondwana Kalahari Park, just 30 km away.

We have adapted the Standard Operating Procedures for all our service Centers and lodges in line with the Government of Namibia’s instructions to the tourism industry. We want to ensure the safest possible environment for our guests and employees whilst offering a comfortable, unforgettable Namibian experience.

We camped at the campsite. Rhe campsite has a nice lawn and beautiful palm trees. We camped the first week of May and it was a very cold but lovely place. The campsite has 4 showers with hot water and 4 toilet.

The campsite and garden itself are beautiful, and the check-in process initially went smoothly. We specifically asked which camping spot we should use and were told to simply choose any free space. All our personal details and car license plate were recorded during check-in. So we set up camp on a free spot. About an hour later, a woman I didn’t know approached our car and, in a sharp tone, asked who I was and what I was doing there. I was in our rooftop tent and explained that we had a valid reservation and were told to pick any free space. She seemed dissatisfied with that response and questioned me again as if I was trespassing. Apparently, she was the hotel manager. I climbed down to show her my reservation, after which she asked if I had booked “at the last minute.” In fact, I had booked more than three months in advance. She could’ve easily verified everything using our license plate, which had been recorded earlier. Only once she realized that I had done nothing wrong did she change her tone – but the damage was done. It became clear that they were either overbooked or having issues with their reservation system, and instead of communicating that respectfully, I was treated with suspicion and rudeness. We no longer felt welcome and decided to leave that same evening, even though we had booked two nights. It was getting late and dark, but we preferred to drive three hours back to Windhoek and stay elsewhere than spend another minute feeling so unwelcome at this place.

The place was incredible, it's a green Oasis on the desert. They have a beautiful garden full of Palm trees and and the rooms were amazing and very clean. We also did a tour of the farm us the butchery that provides the meat to all the gondwana lodges, it was very interesting and impressive. The staff is very nice and the food delicious. We can't wait to come back!

We held a kitchen tea at the farmhouse, where I have previously stayed. The rooms are well-appointed but significantly more expensive compared to Kharuhase, another establishment in Stampriet. During both of my visits, the food quality was commendable, albeit on the pricier side relative to other locations. I understand these costs, considering the remote location and the need to maintain a larger facility. However, the service from the waitstaff was consistently slow, and they frequently did not have menu items available. This suggests a need for enhanced training. Overall, I would describe my experience in Namibia as somewhat average, given these considerations.

We really enjoyed camping at the Kalahari Farmhouse and a highlight was the tour we received from Solomon. We are so impressed with Gondwana and it was great to get a glimpse into the operations. The campsite and bathrooms were spotless clean, lovely green lawn and enough shade from the palm trees.
