Hornbill Lodge and Legends Restaurant

Absolutely stunning location, Tye food is incredible I highly recommend the super burger! Wonderful people, the hospitality they provide is also really brilliant. Would recommend visiting Hornbill Lodge to anyone, from a group of friends to a family get away, and from time to time you get to see a hornbill out your bedroom window! There’s an awesome pool for both adults and kids, and if you’re the type to be adventurous there’s an amazing rock pool on the property. Thank you to the awesome hosts at hornbill lodge! Had a really awesome time.

Wow what a stunning place. Service was great. They set up a nice table for us near the river, with an amazimg view. The food was great. Loved the milkshakes. It was a great experience.

There were 2 young girls waiting at the entrance when we arrived, so we thought that- that would be a good sign... but I guess that they pulled the short straw of "helping out" as they could not be called waitresses ... We had to ask if the restaurant is open, then ask if we are walking the right way, then ask if we can sit outside. It felt like I had to apologize for taking up her time. Tables and chairs where weird, but we were up for something different, if would have been better if the tables were clean. My daughter said it felt like a start of one of those "horror" movies where you have been herded into a place where they feed you fat to harvest your organs. lol. The food was very nice and fresh. and the pool was clean and the water spouts worked. This place has great potential !!!

We went there for the NYE on the 1st and it was the first time to ever to have gone to the festival and well it was great until some people got long fingers and stole my phone and 3 other items. Just be careful when joining in on that festival to keep you belongings in the car or take a bad with…. Lesson learnt

Beautiful location and really so much untapped potential. We were staying in the area and thought we'd get some breakfast at Hornbill, unfortunately we were met by a very miserable and severely soft spoken young lady. We actually felt quite unwelcome and seem to have been rather an inconvenience to her day. I suppose the fact that we were one of very few tables there on a public holiday should have been sign. The food is expensive for what you get, the service makes you feel like an inconvenience and the overall upkeep of the property is poor. It pains me to write this review but it is so frustrating to see a place with so much potential be so badly run. Some proper hospitality training for front of house staff would go a very long way

The website is amazing as is email and whatsapp response. However when we arrived at reception, a young woman told us there had been a 3 day rave event. This seemed to imply we shouldn't picnic there. We asked what it meant and she said they were still cleaning up, which we accepted. It cost R400 entrance free for a family of 3 adults and 2 kids. No discount for the inconvenience of the cleaning which made the only entertainment (swimming and a disheveled unusable trampoline) inaccessible. She then tried to upsell a hike and hamburger deal at R110 pp where if you have brought your own food (we checked via whatsapp this morning if this is okay and we were told it's fine) you still pay the full price. We found a place to picnic and then left to find coffee elsewhere as we just felt like were invading a private property rather than picnicking at a ppace we paid a premium to visit

We almost didn't stay but since we had made the trip we decided to give it a shot. The Restaurant area had 4-5 dogs, sitting either in the chairs or around (we have dogs but that was a no no for a Restaurant). After a while we eventually found an area outside decent to have a meal. The service was slow and waitress wasn't friendly. The milkshake was super yum though minus the stale add one which you can just remove, the food could have definitely skipped was a miss. The families that were there for a swim seemed to have enjoyed themselves. Would definitely not do it again.

What a grumpy waiter! Didn't anybody ever tell you not to serve warm beer on a stinking hot day. It is what it is! Cheers you won't see me again. I can't complain about the room as I never stayed over.
