About Antbear Eco Lodge

Antbear Lodge is situated in the Drakensberg region of KwaZulu Natal near to Giants Castle. What makes our lodge particularly special is that we offer accommodation in a luxury cave. This is an accommodation unit built under a rock. Glass doors open onto a wooden deck with hammock chairs and a spectacular view of the Drakensberg Mountains. This is a luxury eco experience. The cave is cozy and comfortable with features like a Jacuzzi spa bath and a fireplace and even has rock art on its walls.

We also offer a private dining experience where we setup a table on the deck of your cave and you dine by candlelight under the stars.

Antbear Lodge is one of those smaller owner run establishments with 15 accommodation units as either Mountain View suites or Garden view suites.

We also offer pet friendly alternatives

Sustainability and responsible tourism are a huge part of the ethos of our lodge and we subscribe as much as possible to the farm to plate concept. We cook all our meals from scratch and have our own organic vegetable garden. We have our own chickens for eggs, cows for milk and bake our own bread and we even make our own cheese.

Antbear Lodge also offers horse trails ideally suited to beginners. Hot air balloon flights that launch from the lawn in front of the lodge and our newest attraction is our star gazing hammock camp where we tell the Zulu stories of the stars.

The area offers a lot with spectacular hiking trails with dramatic views and waterfalls. And then there is the spectacular bushman rock art where you can see some of the best examples in the world.

What a stunning place, you ride a long gravel road and unfortunately there is a shortage of direction boards. Once you over the steel bridge just carry on for 5km and your destination is on the left. Beautiful place in the mountains. Peaceful among the mountains. Andile Ndlemene is so friendly and helpfull. Going an extra mile for the guests. Thank you. We stay in the luxury cave. Really beautiful and you don't need to bring anything only your clothes. They provide coffee, tea milk. Shampoo, conditioner and even a hairdryer. Not self catering. Breakfast and dinner served in your room or in the dining room. Know we going to enjoy it here.

We really loved staying in the 'cave' and the rustic atmosphere of the Lodge. Such beautiful scenery with helpful staff and excellent meals.

The road to this far away place is terrible. They need to add more directional signage u get lost along the way. They don't change the sheets or dust the beds properly. And the bedding smells ugly they should use stay soft to make their bedding to smell nice.

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff is amazing, Nolu at the front desk is the absolute best!! We are going back for sure!! The lodge has a proper farm feel, perfect escape from the city noise and bustle.

In its heyday it must have been beautiful, but now a little tired. If you enjoy solitude, it's very peaceful & different. It's located way into the Drakensberg area. Every single furnishing has been hand/machined made in local wood on site. Very fascinating.

Definitely one of our best top 2 night honeymoon destinations. If you are looking for a place in the middle of nowhere with no cities, no cars and no people in an absolute beautiful area to just relax and let go then this is definitely the place to be! It is quiet, beautiful, amazing views, stars at night which will take you a lifetime to count, the best and friendliest client service and care during your entire stay! The most delicious and tasty home made breakfasts and dinners served! Also the most unique and interesting wood working and crafting projects and items we've ever seen! Stayed in the luxury cavern and what an experience, its warm, cozy and so comfortable! Thank you Antbear, for an amazing visit and stay at your property! We would hopefully return one day!
