Thanda Tau

Stopped for a quick breakfast turned into an hour and half waste of our time. They had no eggs, so a traditional breakfast was not an option. They had no beef, so prego roll was not an option either. Neither did they have soup. My tea arrived cold no sugar or milk. The service was atrocious. I ordered crumbed mushrooms that was soggy and watery. If you're looking for a quick, edible meal stick to the Spur across the fuel courtyard.

Lovely setting, however many food items were not stocked. We ordered pizzas which were tasty, but for the portion size not worth the price.

Second time to thanda tau, we stop there on our way from the airport of joburg to the drakensberg. Still amazed! Beautiful spacious rooms and bathrooms. Landscaping is just a treat for the eyes. Totally recommand

Absolutely horrible experience. We were highly disappointed on this trip to Thanda Tau -the "game drive". On our journey home to Secunda from KZN this past Sunday, we stopped at Thanda Tau for a mental break and decided to take a half hour safari drive. This is what we paid for and this is what we anticipated going on. After paying, we were taken outside to start the GAME DRIVE. Only to be told that the vehicle was broken down and we would have to walk instead of driving. We were highly infuriated and demanded a refund, but were told by the two gentlemen that no refund could be given to us. I was not going to let out money go to waste, and yet we still weren't taken around the safari properly - even though we had no choice but to walk the safari. I demand an explanation for this. This is unacceptable and unprofessional service that was provided. Who is going to take responsibility for this? I have the receipt as proof of our payment and the service that was paid for as opposed to what was delivered!

Quick roadside stop turned into a lovely lunch in the shade in the garden. We were worried the service would be slow because drinks took long, but food came very quickly and it was delicious. Nice play area and big garden. Nice gift shop too.

Beautiful rooms and location. Love to be woken up by the lion’s roaring! The place is neat and the rooms are very modern. The reason for not giving a 5 star rating is because the rooms don’t have air cons. If they did, definitely 5 stars!! A must experience.

Our accommodation was really nice and the reception lady very kind. HOWEVER, the restaurant experience was utterly disappointing. No waiter came to our table when we sat down, had to go look for someone to take our order. The waitress that eventually came was in no mood to help, and had to change our order three times. No ice tea, no ice cream for milkshakes, no pizza! (Which was boldly advertised on their boards), she also had no clue what a kola tonic and lemonade is. The HOMEMADE lemonade that we did manage to order on the 3rd try was just plain canned lemonade. Waited a long time for just 2 cokes and 2 lemonades. And just as long for the bill. There are plenty of waiters and waitresses but they seem a bit clueless and still service is slow. Thanda tua restaurant, you have so many bad reviews, ranging over a long period of time and still you don't do anything to improve. VERY SAD.

Our family made the detour to visit Thanda Tau, only to be disappointed. Previous visits allowed us to see the lions, as visitors, free of charge. If you want to see them now , you have to pay. Just another unnecessary money- making practise. As lovely as the restaurant and curio shoppes are, we won't be making this detour again. So sad, that it all comes down to money.
