Fabulous accommodation . Good value for money. We stayed here on three occasions and then with family from overseas. We stayed in different rooms each time each with a unique theme. The rooms were elegantly decorated with lots of detail and touches....... The use of a well equipped kitchen and comfortable dining room was a bonus. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Such a beautiful setting. Lovely house, outdoor area and view of city. A generator when needed.

The interior designer of this guesthouse deserves 10/10. The rooms are to die for . I kept on saying “Wow” every time I open each room of this place. The entire set-up is out of this world

I discovered Smithgrove Guesthouse through Google. The room prices are preeminently reasonable. WiFi throughout. The air conditioned rooms are luxuriously appointed and are en suite. The rooms and common areas are impeccably clean and great effort has been made. The king size bed was beautiful and I had my bed sleep in a long time. There is a swimming pool and luxuriously impressive swimming pool area. Breakfast is not offered but there are plenty of spaces to enjoy an ordered-in meal. Suitable for businesspeople who are visiting PMB. Secure onsite parking and a small mall nearby. A jewel in the heart of Pietermaritzburg which gets my five stars for every aspect.

On my way back from holiday my car broke down , and they were extremely helpful I went back there yesterday to pick up my car. Great reception, rooms very clean, very neat and tasteful decorations. Add to that a comfy bed and a hearty breakfast and I will recommend them to anyone. Thanks Neville

Wow what a beautiful guesthouse. The decor is gorgeous, so much attention to detail. There are 5 rooms, each room with it's own design and decor. There is a mini fridge, coffee, tea and sugar and kettle in all the rooms. Some rooms have a private balcony. Some rooms have a bath and shower. There is a beautiful lounge area and dinning room downstairs. The kitchen has a fridge, stove, microwave and coffee maker for your convenience. There is a lovely pool area complete with a gas braai. Parking is off street behind a locked gate. Well located in the leafy suburb of Athlone. This guesthouse is not wheelchair friendly.

The Guesthouse has just been redone completely. Wonderful mix between old Victorian architecture and modern decor. Lovely stay

When we arrived we felt like the area was a little bit decapitated and the walls on the outside looked as though they could use a coat of paint. We had confirmed our stay and they had been kind enough to allow us to pay on arrival al so we did the right thing. When we entered the gates to the property we had to park opposite the next property which is flats that seem very run down. We went in we met the owner who was welcoming enough. Although he wouldn't allow us to stay a little after che k out because the cleaning staff must start cleaning. I think business owners can use their discretion in such cases but again. We understood. The house is beautiful and well decorated. I didn't sleep a wink. The people next to us were making so much noise and there mus have been at least 4 people there which was a lot. In their defense the house has high ceilings and wooden floors and it is a double storey so you can hear everything without anyone being blatantly loud. I messaged the owner around 12:30 to advise him of the noise levels. He told my husband there was nothing he could do about how people behave. Perhaps he is right but the reason for my review is really just to make the next person aware. I certainly will never be returning or recommending this place. Kind regards
